Reception Learning 2016/17

On the Move

This half term, we have been learning about different types of vehicles.

We all had a go at making a car out of a cardboard box. We had lots of fun painting them and decorating them. We talked about the different features of cars, such as a number plate and a steering wheel.

The children enjoyed parading around school in their cars. We had to wait for the pedestrians to cross the road and for the traffic lights to turn green. We had lots of fun!

We even got to wash Mr Hurtault’s car!

This half term we have had a great time with Simon and Sian. The children enjoyed acting as pirates, princesses, pirates and knights for the story.

It has been an exciting half term for Reception and we have been busy doing lots of fantastic work.

It is almost Christmas so we decided to change the house into Santa’s Grotto. The children were really excited about this idea. They got involved by making snowflakes, decorating the tree, as well as making a life size collage of Santa himself! We think we did a pretty awesome job!

We love being scientists in Reception and we took part in a chromatography activity! We spoke about what we thought was going to happen once we added the water and when the colours mixed together! You can see our fantastic work on display in our classroom.

In Reception we are trying really hard to learn the 100 high frequency words. We take a list home to practise with our parents and our teachers test us on how many we have learnt once a week. We are extremely proud to say that Rayhaan Choudhury and Aiza Khan have learnt all 100 words! We hope there will be more children who also get a special badge from Miss Stephenson.

Our trip to Eureka!

On Tuesday 15th September, Reception joined Year One on a trip to Eureka. As part of our topic on All About Me, we spent the day exploring the museum and learning about our bodies. We enjoyed a range of activities, including visiting the Post Office and discovering the Health Clinic. We had the opportunity to discover a range of jobs and activities. We learnt how to keep our teeth clean and how important it is to wash our hands. We were lucky enough to dress up. Some of us dressed up as mechanics, shop keepers and bank managers.

We enjoyed having a picnic at lunchtime with all our friends and finished the day by playing in the giant sandpit. Reception had lots of fun! Thank you to all our parent volunteers who joined us on the trip and all the parents who made a voluntary contribution.
