Newby: A vision
Newby will be characterised by high standards in literacy and numeracy; a rich, broad and balanced curriculum; a happy, safe and supportive atmosphere, underpinned by a strong commitment to helping all children succeed whatever their background or abilities.
In our school, children will enjoy the richness of their learning, not just learning different things, but learning in many different ways: out-of-doors, through play, in small groups, through art, music and sport, from each other, from adults other than teachers, before school, after school, with their parents and grandparents, formally and informally, by listening, by watching and by doing. We will take pride in pupils’ learning and want them to do well.
To make this possible the school will provide a rich, exciting programme of learning. Our school curriculum will give our school its own distinct identity and ethos which reflects a good understanding of, and close partnership with, the wider school community. Our school itself will be a learning place, the staff will want to learn and develop, and the curriculum will change and improve over time.
Most importantly, at Newby, there will be no sense of tension between high standards and exciting learning. Children will have the chance to learn in a range of different ways. All of the learning and teaching will be of a high quality, and will be planned and managed so that every child is supported and challenged.
By offering every child the chance to achieve their full potential, we will achieve high standards for all, providing foundations for future learning, and for success in life.
