Community, Respect and Safety

Newby is proud to be part of the West Bowling community. Friendliness and co-operation are at the heart of the school’s ethos. We want all pupils to grow up as good citizens of the future, appreciating the human values that bind us together, and respecting our differences.

We want children to be proud of their identities, and to feel happy where they belong: in their families, their school, their locality, their city, their county, their country, their world.

We want to safeguard our children by developing in them the personal, social and intellectual resources to resist people or ideas that spread divisiveness, intolerance and hatred.

These themes underpin many school policies, plans and practices, including:

  • Spiritual, Moral, Cultural and Social Development
  • Equalities
  • Safeguarding (especially eSafety)
  • Behaviour
  • Religious Education
  • Events, charity work, celebrations, commemorations
  • Attendance
  • History, topic, news and current affairs.

Protecting children from extremist views is an integral part of safeguarding. There is also a separate policy statement which can be read here.
